Winnie Poncelet

Winnie is co-founder of ReaGent, a non-profit Do-It-Yourself bio lab in Ghent that makes biosciences more accessible. This biological lab serves as a place for learning, prototyping and experimenting for beginners and experts alike. Besides providing infrastructure, ReaGent advances basic bioscience literacy through peer-to-peer learning and workshops, primarily aimed at children. From the bio lab emerged 5’3, a group of individuals to set up biologically inspired experiments that challenge thoughts and actions in and beyond the fields of biosciences.

During and after his engineering and innovation studies, Winnie has worked at Millibeter, a Belgian startup transforming organic waste into new resources using fly larvae, where he designed a fully automated larvae and fly breeding process. Currently he is building Magma Nova, an open design and innovation studio around biodegradable materials, headquartered in Brussels.

With other past adventures in professional poker, horror movie and event production and edible insect breeding, he has a backpack of diverse perspectives. Whenever he’s not growing things, he likes to do sports, reading, writing and walking.
